Job Description:

Clientmind Recruiting is seeking an Electrical Engineer with design, schematic capture, and layout experience for a full-time position with our client's Hardware Engineering group located in Manassas, VA. This organization provides military-grade Iridium satellite modems and tracking terminals, as well as secure geolocation solutions for the defense, research, and commercial sectors.

The successful candidate will work with their talented electrical design team, and collaborate with systems engineers, RF engineers, mechanical engineers, embedded software engineers, and project management to design satellite communication and GPS tracking electronics that meet customer requirements and internal work standards. The candidate will also help shape their Assured PNT and SDR-based product designs, leading or participating in the requirement, planning, development, and production phases of these projects.

Responsibilities and Duties

Engineer circuits for microcontroller, microprocessor, USB, Gigabit Ethernet, LVDS, RS-232, I2C, SPI, audio, battery charger, power supplies, signal conversion, bypass filtering, ESD protection, signal quality and frequency response

Select components, generate schematics, place and route PCBA, generate design verification test (DVT) plans, power models, and reliability models

Perform prototype receipt visual inspection, benchtop bring up, DVT, troubleshoot, circuit correction/tuning, and write DVT report

Development test boards and/or breadboards to evaluate/prove circuit designs

Work with the mechanical engineering team defining printed circuit board outlines, validating component clearances within the enclosure, and provide data for their thermal simulations

Engineer programming and testing fixtures for production use

Qualifications and Skills

BS in Electrical Engineering

4-6 years circuit design in experience

2+ years of experience using Altium Designer

PCBA routing experience for both impedance defined single-ended and differential pairs

Ability to read and understand datasheets for integrated circuits and other complex components

Experience with small form-factor devices containing miniature displays, touch panels, RF modules, antennas, printed circuit boards, and embedded rechargeable batteries is an advantage

Understanding of project scheduling, daily task time tracking, and weekly progress reporting

Experience with PCBA power management design, particularly with battery-powered systems

Ability to utilize laboratory equipment: oscilloscopes, signal generators, vector network analyzers, data acquisition modules, spectrum analyzers, programmable power supplies/loads and others.

Experience with Microsoft Office. Ability to develop presentation and report material to illustrate designs.

Experience with LABVIEW, MATLAB, Python scripting, LTSpice, PowerCAD or similar software

Ability to solder 0805 size components or smaller.

Familiar with J-STD-001

Due to the nature of the work and the environment in which the work takes place, the candidate must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance.
