Salary Grade: 3 Pay Range Hiring Range: $17.36 - $20.40 Per Hour Full Range: $17.36 - $23.44 Per Hour Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position as a Transportation Maintenance Technician I is in the Traffic Signing section of the Pima County Department of Transportation. This position requires work in and around traffic right-of-way and in all types of weather. It also requires periodic on-call overtime (nights, weekends, and holidays). In this position, you will perform maintenance on and installation of all types of ground-mounted MUTCD-compliant traffic signing. (Work assignments may vary depending on the department's needs and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.) Assists Trades Maintenance classified employees and others in performance of their duties; Performs operator-level inspections, servicing and maintenance of assigned tools, equipment and vehicles; Performs non-skilled replacement, repair or adjustment of facility or system components; Prepares and cleans areas or equipment undergoing repair, painting, maintenance, construction or other related activity; Cuts, trims, seeds, fertilizes and, under supervision, applies herbicides/pesticides to turf grasses, soils, trees and ornamental shrubs; Maintains security and accountability for all tools, equipment and materials required in performance of duties, particularly in a medical, detention or correctional setting; Maintains and uses safety and personal protective equipment; Performs housekeeping services to maintain safe, clean and orderly conditions in the workplace. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of: operation and maintenance of basic hand and powered tools, equipment and materials encountered in area of specialization of assigned work area; typical hazards of the assigned work-areas or encountered in the area of specialization, and safety procedures and equipment required. Skill in: performing helper-level duties in the area of assignment; following written and oral instructions; communicating effectively; operating and performing operator-level maintenance of powered equipment in the assigned area. Six months of experience performing helper-level duties in the specific skill, craft, vocation, trade or operational area of employment. (Relevant training or education may be substituted for the aforementioned experience.) Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.): Experience using a variety of powered and manual hand tools. Experience using computers and phones for communication and data entry. Experience operating 1-ton or heavier vehicles, skid steer, forklift, and concrete mixer. Experience setting up temporary traffic control. Experience installing and maintaining signing, especially traffic signing. Experience with/knowledge of MUTCD signing requirements especially as related to signing hardware and installation standards. Selection Procedure: Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process. Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver's license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. This position requires a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application or prior to completion of an initial/promotional probation Some positions must obtain and maintain certain certifications by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Some positions within this classification may be assigned duties and responsibilities specific to the central Human Resources Department of Pima County including budget preparation, reports generation, and compliance with Federal Immigration laws. Due to need for access to law enforcement, detention or correctional facilities, some positions may require satisfactory completion of a personal background investigation by law enforcement agencies. Some positions may carry the risk of exposure to infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, asbestos or wastewater products, therefore special medical screening prior to or during employment may be necessary to assure employee health and safety. Physical/Sensory Requirements: Some positions may require the ability to: lift and carry up to seventy-five pounds; safely operate assigned vehicles and other powered equipment; work in extremes of heat, humidity, dust, cold; wear required safety clothing/equipment; work with or in the presence of obnoxious odors; work with noxious or potentially hazardous chemicals, compounds or products; ascend and descend ladders and stairs to reach and work upon elevated or below-grade work platforms and job sites; differentiate between colors.
