The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Full-Time Mechanical Engineer GS-0830-12 to work at the 49th Civil Engineering Squadron at Holloman Air Force Base in Alamo Gordo, NM.

You will serve as mechanical engineer within the 49 CES Ops Flight at Holloman AFB. Holloman is the 3rd largest base in the US, we oversee 1,500 facilities; a 240-mile water distribution, 255-mile electrical distribution network; and a 76-mile natural gas distribution network. You will have constant collaboration amongst various shops, end users, subject matter experts, contracting, and our team within CE.

You would develop courses of actions to deliver a balanced cost and risk investment plan for the assets which comprises your portfolio consisting largely of HVAC, gas distribution, and control systems. and related assignments • Experience of design and construction practices and techniques in establishing design parameters and preparing project justifications and specifications • Experience with related fields of work such as architectural, electrical, mechanical, structural, environmental and civil engineering sufficient to ensure that areas of overlapping responsibilities receive proper design considerations • Knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, principles, and practices and familiarity with architectural and other engineering disciplines • Knowledge of a broad range of engineering and construction standards, methods, practices and techniques, materials and equipment to determine compliance with federal, state and local codes and regulations; of standard contracting regulations, practices and procedures as it relates to facilities engineering • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and/or technical orders • Knowledge of environmental principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations and current legislative issues; of work classifications and the regulatory and statutory restrictions on the expenditures of funds • Knowledge of aesthetic and functional design techniques and skill in preparing project documentation, to include preliminary drawings, sketches and construction drawings; and technique/ Skill in drafting sufficient to convey design concepts and ideas and formulate working drawings • May be required to serve on Architect and Engineer boards • May act as project liaison with the Army Corps of Engineers or other design agencies as required • You must meet the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements applicable to the duties of the position, current DAWIA certification is highly desired Click the apply button to complete an application and upload resume (PDF or Word Doc) and/or additional documents (Transcripts, certifications, Vet Docs (DD214), SF-50).
