POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Note: All official drafts, documents and recommendations, as listed below, must be reviewed, finalized and approved / accepted by appropriate BPA manager or other federal personnel with the authority to do so.
Perform line electrical clearance analysis in support of line design, line rating, vegetation management, and estimating processes.
Perform sag and tension calculation for analysis of conductor, ground wire and fiber optic cables to provide adequate ground and structure clearances.
Assess the results of the electrical clearance analysis, span analysis, stress/strain, and vegetation management tools and compile in a report for Line Rating Subject Matter Expert (SME) review.
Research and review engineering design drawings, schematics, specifications, structure/tower lists, one line and phasing diagrams, and sag instructions /stringing charts, resolve discrepancies and update documents as necessary.
Perform engineering calculations and analyses involving thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, stress analysis, and AC/DC electrical circuits and use that information to compile reports for Line Rating SME review.
Process survey data and import it into the relational database.
Develop automated engineering tools in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to assist in engineering analyses and processing of engineering data.
Provide line rating support to design teams during scoping of transmission projects.
Provide training to junior engineers in the area of electrical clearance analysis, as directed by the BPA manager.
Review industry standards and provide feedback to the Line Rating SME on industry developments relative to the electrical clearance and line rating.
Provide feedback to Line Rating SME in the formulation of line rating standards, processes and guides.
