Job Description Summary: Starting hourly pay range for these positions are, commensurate with experience Maintenance Technician I: Up to $23.35, (Full pay range $18.03 to $24.42) Maintenance Technician II: Up to $29.07, (Full pay range $20.33 to $32.53) Maintenance Technician III: Up to $31.99, (Full pay range $22.37 to $35.79) TRAINING: Paid training will be provided to successful applicants. Training includes but is not limited to commercial driver's license training, heavy equipment training, other training to meet qualifications for promotion to higher technician classifications. OVERALL JOB OBJECTIVE: Under direct or general supervision, performs a variety of entry level to semi-skilled maintenance tasks in the areas of maintenance, landscaping, construction and equipment operation for City of Boulder transportation corridors and medians, and performs related duties as required. Transportation Maintenance Technician I: Under direct supervision, performs entry level to semi-skilled tasks. Transportation Maintenance Technician II: Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled to skilled tasks. Transportation Maintenance Technician III: Under general supervision, provides staff direction, daily coordination of activities, and performs skilled to semi-skilled tasks. Job Description: Job Description DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The following explains the expectations with additional information for Maintenance Technician III 1.Performs horticultural tasks. This includes the following: Designs, plans, plants, prunes, cleans and maintains medians, planter beds, shrub beds, pocket parks, and other plantings. Purchases materials and plant stock. Tills, fertilizes, mulches flowerbeds and other plantings; chip mulches trees, shrubs, and other plantings. Prunes shrubs, assists in ensuring plants are maintained in a safe and healthy condition. Performs mechanical weed and pest control in medians, planter beds, shrub and mulch areas and general transportation areas as part of an Integrated Pest Management program. 2. Supports maintenance and repairs of the City of Boulder Transportation system for rights-of way of bikeways, medians, including but not limited to the following: Bikeway Maintenance: Sweeping cement and asphalt surfaces; ensuring paths are free of obstructions; trash and snow removal; turf area maintenance and weed trimming; repair surface damage and remove graffiti; paint underpasses. Removal of deceased animals in right of way. Transportation and Median Maintenance: Landscaping of trees, annuals and perennials and mowing, trash and snow removal, aerating, fertilizing, and sweeping; planting flower beds, weeding, pruning, chip mulching, edging, implementation and documentation of the workgroup's Integrated Pest Management Plan (IPM), irrigation system maintenance management, remove graffiti and paint underpasses. Removal of deceased animals in right of way. Street Sweeper Operation: Operation and maintenance of mechanical street sweeper units for city streets. Changes sweeper brooms and hauls sweeper debris to designated location. Sweeps on-street bike lanes and streets on a regular basis, sometimes early mornings to minimize traffic impacts. 3. Uses tools and equipment in the performance of maintenance tasks and may perform minor and preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles. Willingness/ability to respond to 25% after hours work during irregular hours, weekends, evenings, holidays, and emergencies. 5. Must respond to 100% of snow shifts when called from September through May. 6. Actively promotes a safety culture by observing and following all city and department safety procedures, regulations and policies and assists in ensuring others do so in order to promote a safe work environment and prevent injuries and illnesses. For Maintenance Technician III. Also, trains and supervises temporary staff in safe operation of equipment/vehicles. 1. Facilitates good communication with co-workers and supervisors and community members. This includes: Shares information and receives feedback, listens to and respects input, participates in workgroup conversations, and directly deals with issues that arise. Communicates important information from supervisors and other City officials to co-workers and employees. 2. Maintains accurate records of work performed and materials and equipment used. Will use a computer, tablet or phone to log information. 3. Remains generally alert to conditions and events occurring on public right of ways indicating anticipated or needed repairs, and report such conditions to supervisors. 4. May interact with members of the public in the field to provide information and customer service. Provides input into responses to inquiries from the public and/or internal departments/requestors. 5. Participates as a member of a team. Demonstrates a strong work ethic. Treats co-workers and supervisors with respect and courtesy. Contributes and gives input to the team. Recognizes the needs of team members and maintains a fair share of team's workload. Works effectively on a team and promotes teamwork when directing seasonal or temporary workers. 6. May assist in maintaining the Utilities infrastructure system. Generally, duties and responsibilities are listed from most to least critical or time consuming. REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Basic mathematic, written, and spoken communication skills. Experience/Licenses and Certifications: Maintenance Technician I: At least one year of experience in outdoor maintenance or construction in landscape or streets, including basic knowledge of plant, tree, and weed identification, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Possession of or ability to obtain within six months of hire, obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License with these endorsements: B (26,001 or more pounds); N (Tanker); and without L (airbrake restrictions). Basic knowledge of computers including use of personal computers and/or Smart Phones and Email functions. Possession of or ability to obtain Flagger certification-ATSSA (American Traffic Safety Services Association) or equivalent certification as a traffic flagger. Possession of or ability to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification (through Red Cross or equivalent accredited institution) within 9 months of hire. Basic knowledge of safe use of hand tools, commercial and light duty vehicles, outdoor power equipment, and trailers. Ability to obtain front-end loader and skid-steer loader safety training certification within 9 months of hire. Learn to run a variety of landscaping/streets equipment. Basic asset management knowledge. Ability to learn and implement safety practices including situational awareness. Maintenance Technician II: Possesses all of the technical and interpersonal skills, certifications, licenses, and training defined for the Maintenance Technician I.
