Senior Process Engineer - Cell Manufacturing Development

Location: Boston, MA

Salary: $130k-$145k Depending on Experience

About the Role:

We're seeking a Senior Process Engineer to join a dynamic team driving the development of next-gen high-volume manufacturing processes in the rapidly growing energy storage market. This pivotal role involves defining critical production process needs and collaborating with internal and external experts to develop innovative and efficient process concepts. The ideal candidate brings a robust understanding of process fundamentals and a proactive approach to turning ideas into successful production equipment. Reporting to the Team Lead - Cell Manufacturing, the Senior Process Engineer will play a key role in process innovation and volume production system establishment.

Responsibilities:

- Develop innovative manufacturing processes for foil cut, lamination, electrode casting, and unit cell assembly in support of high-volume production.

- Conduct in-depth material performance studies to drive process optimization and development.

- Perform equipment and process capability studies, implementing improvements based on data-driven results.

- Design and execute feasibility studies to guide novel process directions.

- Collaborate closely with equipment design engineers and external partners to achieve successful proof of concept.

- Integrate process control parameters into manufacturing protocols.

Required Skills and Experience:

- 4-6 years of diverse manufacturing process experience.

- Expertise in various coating and laminating technologies (heat sealing, adhesive sealing, etc.).

- Experience with slitting, die cutting, roll-to-roll processes, or similar methodologies.

- Strong problem-solving skills with a passion for understanding and optimizing processes.

- Proven ability to design, optimize, and qualify processes using data-driven decisions.

- Comfortable in fast-paced environments, committed to aggressive timelines, and creative in problem-solving.

- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a willingness to mentor and share knowledge.

Desired Skills and Experience:

- Prior experience in the lithium-ion battery industry.

- Broad knowledge encompassing mixing, extrusion, welding, formation, etc.

- Familiarity with in-line continuous vision system inspection systems, laser cutting, or rotary die-cutting of thin foils.

- Experience in scaling processes from lab to high-volume manufacturing.

Education:

- Bachelor's degree in Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related fields.

Physical and Environmental Standards:

- Capable of working in low moisture dry room environments.

- Comfortable working in machine shop environments.

- Adherence to OSHA standards for manual lifting guidelines.

- Ability to travel domestically and internationally for development activities ( 10%).
