Salary Range: $31,688 - $55,453 / Salary Grade: NC05 INTERNAL POSTING - only temporary or permanent NCDOT employees or layoff candidates with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by GS 126 may apply. This posting is for a Transportation Worker II in the Road Oil Unit. This work is related to the maintenance and repair of State-maintained roads within Division 13. This position will report to the Road Oil Office. Work will consist of a wide range of progressively responsible maintenance tasks in the preventive maintenance, repair and construction of State maintained roads. Work includes setting up work zones, installing traffic control devices, repairing asphalt pavements, clearing right of way of debris and hazards, assisting with pipe installation, and operating a variety of hand and power tools. This work includes the operation of various pieces of equipment that includes but is not limited to an asphalt maintainer, asphalt patch truck, tandem dump truck, crack sealing machine, rollers, sweepers, skid steer, and backhoe. This position will monitor tasks performed by other transportation workers, respond to emergencies such as snow and ice removal, downed trees, and traffic control cleanup, etc. during normal business hours or during emergency call back situations and scheduled night work. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License with N endorsement. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver's License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver's License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.Qualified applicants must submit an application that CLEARLY reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Working knowledge of Work Zone Safety and Workplace safety policies. Working knowledge of standard road maintenance and construction procedures. Experience in at least two pieces of Category B Maintenance equipment (asphalt distributor, asphalt mixer, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, ditching machine, force feed loader, front end loader, lube truck, asphalt maintainer, post driver, skid steer, street sweeper, tandem dump truck, tractor "A" boom mower, truck w/aerial device). Experience in one of the following: pipe installation, installation of erosion control devices, snow and ice removal, ditch maintenance or asphalt patching. Additional Expectations: Working knowledge of the principals involved in the operation and use of the equipment to which assigned. Ability to perform assigned tasks and to follow oral and written instructions as directed by supervisor. Manual labor includes, but is not limited to operating chain saws, shoveling, driving trucks and litter pickup. Employees must be able to operate the minimum amount of equipment required in the preceding level. Employees at this level may train on and operate equipment associated with the specialist level for a small percentage of time. Work may include lifting up to 50lbsrepeatedly. Employees must have the ability to climb, bend, traverse steep and uneven terrain, and work in extreme temperature conditions. May require work during nontraditional workhours including nights, weekends, and holidays. Position is subject to emergency call back. Pre-employment drug testing required.
