About the Position The Development Services Division of the Public Works Department is offering an exciting career opportunity for a surveyor to join our team. For more information regarding the County Surveyor's Office, please visit: The surveyor party chief will serve as Public Works' internal field surveyor for numerous County divisions and a wide variety of County projects. Typical survey requests will include conducting topographic surveys, completing right of way retracement, establishing construction stakes, researching historic records, perpetuating right of way monumentation, preparing record documents, and more. Current field equipment includes a state-of-the-art robotic system, RTK GPS, and an aerial quadcopter drone. Other duties may include: Using computer programs and point-cloud mapping software to calculate existing maps, preparing topographic surveys, calculating points and alignments for construction staking, and creating record maps. Researching existing recorded information, including record maps, plans, deeds, easements, and right-of-way documents. Reading and interpreting engineering construction plans. Coordinating with engineers and project managers from various Public Works divisions. Answering questions from the public. Other duties as assigned. The Ideal Candidate A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Examples of qualifying education and experience include: Engineer I Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field; or Possession of an Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) Certificate or Land Surveyor in Training (L.S.I.T.) Certificate AND four years of paraprofessional level civil engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying experience. Engineer II: Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field AND one year of professional level civil engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying experience; or Possession of an Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) Certificate or Land Surveyor in Training (L.S.I.T.) Certificate AND four years of paraprofessional level civil engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying experience AND one year of professional level civil engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying experience. Engineer III: Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, AND five years of professional level public works, civil engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying experience; or Possession of a valid California Certificate of Registration as a civil engineer, traffic engineer, land surveyor or other special licensure AND two years professional civil engineering, traffic engineering, or land surveying experience. In addition to the above, the ideal candidate would have the following abilities.
