DESCRIPTION OF POSITION'S ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the general direction of the Engineering & Environmental Manager, the Mining Engineer will prepare mine plans and engineering designs. Perform frequent evaluations of productivity and economics of mine areas. Plan and carry out responsible and varied engineering assignments which require a general familiarity with a broad spectrum of both mining and environmental engineering. Prepare short-range and long-range mine plans. Prepare engineering designs for safety and production. Design and oversee construction of ponds and other hydrologic features.

Oversee both the regulatory permitting process for continued mining, and the regulatory process for the bond release of previously mined areas. Perform Land Surveys using a variety of technologies including: drones, scanners, total stations and GPS.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A BS degree in Mining, Environmental or Civil Engineering is required. Minimum of 2-5 years in mining or related experience is preferred. Experience in database and computer programs such as AutoCAD, Carlson, Word, Access and Excel is required.

Knowledge of surface coal mining methods, operating procedures and economics is preferred. Knowledge of engineering requirements of permit applications and appropriate state and federal laws/regulations is also preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state regulations and laws governing hazardous waste management is required.

The successful candidate will be able to work in a team atmosphere, both as a team leader and a team member; have strong analytical and evaluative problem solving skills; be able to prepare, monitor, and maintain project schedules; and effectively communicate with contemporaries, professionals in other departments, consultants/contractors, and management.

Must posses a valid drivers' license.
