Huntsman is seeking an Electrical Engineer supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in McIntosh, Alabama. This position will report to the Regional Manufacturing Director.

Job Scope

This position is responsible for instrument and electrical engineering support for capital projects.

As the Electrical Engineer you will:

  • Support multiple projects in different phases at the same time with varying size and project complexity.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship with the Huntsman Center of Excellence, site and project team resources, third-party vendors, and engineering and construction contractors.
  • Have responsibilities in all phases of capital projects, starting with the front-end planning phase and finishing with achieving beneficial operation.
  • Take ownership of the project instrument and electrical scope to help ensure it has been properly evaluated, controlled, and implemented in the field. Areas of expertise and relevant experience required for the following:
    • Instrumentation
    • Distributed control system I/O
    • PLCs and microprocessors
    • Local and networked safety systems
    • Independent Protection Layers
    • MCC components and electrical equipment to 5kV
    • Grounding systems
    • Electrical area classification
  • Design the processes and develop or oversee the development of documentation for lifecycle management of instrumented safeguards identified by hazard review studies, including but not limited to: Safety Requirement Specifications for Safety Instrumented Systems, proof test procedures for instrumented protective functions, etc.
  • Be the main instrument and electrical point of contact for the project team at the site location.
  • Liaise with project and site resources as needed during all project phases.
  • Support the project team by ensuring data requests and reviews are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure accurate and timely project reporting to the Capital Project Engineer, Capital Projects Manager and Capital Project Controller.
  • Work closely with the Capital Project Engineer, Commissioning Manager and project team to ensure all project acceptance criteria are met to support a successful start-up.
  • Embrace the Huntsman safety culture and help ensure projects are developed and executed in compliance with Huntsman PSM EH&S procedures, including hazard analysis and management of change.

Other general responsibilities:

  • Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
  • Keeps current with technical developments in his/her respective field through outside study, trade journals, technical societies, and seminars.
  • Participates in and completes company-required training programs.
  • Participates in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.
  • Position may require up to 25% of regional and global travel depending on project location.

Required Qualifications:

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

This position may require some involvement with materials regulated under the Resource conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). This involvement may require an understanding of applicable rules and procedures associated with RCRA wastes. A combination of training methods, e.g., Computer-based Training, Classroom, and/or On-the-job training, will be provided prior to any such involvement with RCRA regulated wastes.

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of relevant working experience in a similar role in an industrial setting.

  • Experience working with engineering and construction companies, preferably within the specialty chemicals or oil and gas industries.
  • Must have a high level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft programs.
