We have an opportunity for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our experienced team of electrical designers based in Santa Clara, CA. Reporting to 3Vi's Electrical Lead/Principal for this groundbreaking project, the Principal Electrical Engineer will be responsible for leading and managing a small team of designers on a multidisciplinary infrastructure project. The responsibilities of the Principal Electrical Engineer include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise and lead a facilities electrical design project
- Lead and manage a team of senior engineers, project engineers, and CAD/Revit designers.
- Produce designs for medium-voltage power, low-voltage power, lighting, fire detection, grounding, and EV charging stations. Design packages include engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications. Stamp and seal, as needed.
- Coordinate electrical design with mechanical, civil, structural, and architectural.
- Prepare technical reports, electrical calculations, and electrical designs. Electrical calculations include volt drop, short circuit calculations, lighting levels, motor starting, and grounding calculations.
- Interpret and apply relevant electrical codes, including NEC, NFPA, and California Electric Code.Develop code-compliant designs. Incorporate client requirements outlined in Design Criteria Manual and other relevant documents.
- Review shop drawings and product data sheets
- Calculate cable and raceway sizes and determine routing
- Oversee development of digital deliverables in a BIM/Revit environment.
- Complete/review electrical studies produced in ETAP
- Complete/review lighting calculations produced in AGi32
- Prepare new power service applications.
- Visit client sites, as needed.
- Participate in regular project meetings
- Attend in-person meetings with the project team based in the Santa Clara/San Jose area.
- Mentor and inspire our growing team of entry-level designers and engineers-in-training.
- Support additional 3Vi projects, as needed.
This position is full-time based out of our Santa Clara office. Hybrid working arrangements will be considered for this role (2-3 days per week in the office).
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Registration as a California P.E. Electrical is required for this position
- Out-of-state P.E.'s will be considered - must be able to obtain California P.E. within 3 months of start date
- 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering (power systems) is preferred
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
- Strong background facilities electrical design is preferred.
