Timmons Group is currently seeking a Substation Electrical Engineer III to join our Electrical Design Group located in our Charlotte, NC office location. The position's core responsibilities include creating electrical protection & control design deliverables. Projects range in size, complexity, and voltage class. This position can influence the future of the resiliency and reliability of the electric grid. Opportunities to advance into leadership/management roles are available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

Lead in preparation of proposals and scope development, including conceptual designs and execution plans, engineering/project cost estimates and schedules

Protection and control design including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC schematics, DC elementaries, equipment wiring and relay panel wiring

Equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing

Lead coordination of design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, etc.)

Develop and improve processes, tools and/or technology implementations

Provide leadership, training and mentoring to less experienced engineers and team members

Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel

Perform quality reviews for other engineers and designers

Provide short term field support during construction

Support business development and marketing initiatives

Other areas of involvement may include relay settings, 3D modeling/design, or industry/professional technical committee involvement

Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from accredited program

Minimum 7 years related experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience)

Must be a registered Professional Engineer (PE)

Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE / ANSI Standards

Knowledge of computer drafting tools such as AutoCAD preferred

Excellent written & verbal communication skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Capability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures and criteria
