Position Overview
The Principal Electrical Engineer will join the Research & Development organization in designing, developing, and testing novel electronic systems based on medical operating devices. Areas of responsibilities includes the creation of hardware, firmware, and software components; specification and selection; system and subsystem integration; and verification and validation in accordance with standards and satisfaction of requirements. The Senior Electrical Engineer must also be able to write detailed electrical specifications, test procedures/reports and generate design documentation. Ease of traveling off-site and excellent customer service skills are important within the scope of field.
Essential Job Functions
- Designs, develops, and tests analog, digital, and circuits in commercialized medical devices and automated test systems.
- Builds prototypes and proves design feasibility, functionality, and performance.
- Supports Manufacturing in troubleshooting operations involving medical devices through assembly and tests.
- Evaluates and selects components and generates component specifications as well as functional and test specifications.
- Documents all phases of the design including requirements, specifications, plans, reviews, test procedures, and test reports.
- Identifies, evaluates, and recommends key suppliers based on electrical technical abilities, experience, history, and certifications.
- Facilitates and maintains constant communications with key suppliers and internal stakeholders during project development.
- Is familiar with PCB design and layout.
- Works with cross functional departments such as Product Development, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Quality, Reliability, and Manufacturing.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. M.S. is preferred.
- Minimum of 9 years of experience or more of practical experience in circuit or system design, development, integration, or testing.
- Familiar with applicable standards and regulations for medical device design.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
- Excellent organization, documentation, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Experience with the generation, review, and understanding of formal engineering drawings and documents required for the fabrication and assembly.
- Experience working with vendors and contract manufacturers for fabrication and assembly.
- Experience with the use of basic laboratory instruments and tools (e.g. DMM, mixed signal oscilloscope, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer, and network analyzer).
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment with strong collaboration skills.
- Strong team leadership skills and the ability to work independently.
