Senior Mechanical Engineer (Surgical Hardware)

Compensation: $130,000 - $180,000 / year

Description

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Surgery Hardware team to support a diverse collection of hardware projects for both research and clinical use. This position will suit a versatile engineer with experience with a multitude of mechanical design disciplines, such as, but not limited to, injection molded electronics enclosures, pneumatic systems, liquid and compression silicone molding, sheet metal parts, and CNC machined parts.

This position will be on-site in Manhattan, New York. We are unable to consider remote workers. You must be currently in the United States with working rights to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the design and development of implantable hardware and custom surgical instruments to assist our novel minimally invasive surgical procedure to deploy our electrode array onto the brain cortical surface.
  • Lead the design and development of hardware systems that are critical for collecting neural data in our in vivo research as well as our clinical collaborations.
  • Gather input from experts at existing surgical navigational systems, liaise with surgeons and other specialists in the field.
  • Complete hands-on assembly, integration and testing tasks while ensuring rigorous quality control is being enforced.
  • Collaborate with the rest of our team to publish and present our work.
  • Create and update end-user technical documentation, product specifications and vendor procedures to ensure we are compliant with relevant regulations.
Requirements
  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering (ME), Biomedical Engineering (BME) or similar.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in mechanical engineering roles, preferably in the medical device industry.
  • Expert in rapid prototyping using tools such as FDM and SLA 3D printers, laser cutters, manual milling machines, etc, and a track record of working towards accelerated timelines
  • Diverse experience of engineering disciplines ranging from pneumatics, electronics, silicone molds, injection molded plastics, sheet metal, and CNC parts.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; able to collaborate with neuroscientists, neurosurgeons, and electrical, software, materials, and bio engineers.
  • Proficient in CAD (we use SolidWorks)
  • You should be comfortable with creative problem solving, collaborating, and taking charge of projects from concept to production.
