Job Description:

First Mode is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will build the initial concepts and preliminary designs for the fleet truck mechanical systems to support the deployment to each platform and program mine site. This person will establish the larger team structure and work as the lead of that system, representing it to the rest of the company.

Position Responsibilities

  • Responsible and accountable for the Mechanical Engineering deliverables for the Hybrid Electric Vehicle projects, several models of which are to deploy to customers over the coming year.
  • Mechanical Systems team leadership and mentorship for the people working the vehicle systems design and analysis.
  • Design and manage the configuration of the HEV platform and conduct subsystems and system-level trades, conduct design for manufacturing assessments with the Manufacturing Team, and deliver hardware to the test site at Centralia and to shipment for customers.
  • Interface with Product Team to determine the structural and mass implications of different generations of products
  • Evaluating and prioritizing design of common elements among 930E-4, 930E-5, 830E-1AC, 830E-5 platforms
  • Responsible for tasking and prioritizing work to the discipline engineers along with review / approval of Mechanical Engineering drawings and analysis packages
  • Define and manage interfaces for Haul Truck Systems and critical subsystems components

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of overall industry experience
  • 7+ years of experience in a leadership position
  • 7+ years of experience with CAD software packages and mechanical design
  • 7+ years of experience in life-cycle development of mechanical system hardware within a complex system or product
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience with hardware design, prototyping, fabrication, and assembly
  • 7+ years of experience in GD&T application on design drawings
  • Demonstrated understanding of mechanical systems fundamentals and application of these to the design process

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience successfully leading and mentoring engineering teams
  • Experience in static, dynamic, and/or thermal analysis of mechanical systems
  • Experience in casting designs and/or design-for-casting manufacturing a strong plus
  • Experience in design for durability given lifetime requirements
  • Proficiency in NX CAD and TeamCenter tools or other PDM/PLM systems
  • Experience delivering a multi-functional product to production scale
  • A knack for thinking about how the parts of a system work together
  • Ability to write and speak clearly about technical subject matter
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Additional Requirements

  • Occasional travel within the United States and internationally to represent First Mode to its customers, vendors, and partners and to coordinate with the First Mode Team in Australia

Location

  • This position will be located at First Mode's headquarters in Seattle, WA and will be required to work in office >60% of working hours

Total Rewards

Base Sa lary Range: $137,000 - $161,000
