By joining the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Design Section as a Transportation Engineering Assistant I in Clay County, you will have the opportunity to perform beginning level technical tasks in support of transportation engineering programs and complete low level maintenance and construction inspections. Holders of the Transportation Engineering Assistant I position will complete tasks such as: Performs basic surveying activities for roadway location surveying and construction surveying. Assists with establishing centerlines, taking cross-sections and elevations. Performs basic quality assurance materials sampling and testing such as concrete slump and temperature, and asphalt content and density. Performs basic calculations of quantities of materials and cost estimates and checks others' calculation of quantities. Holders of this job will obtain the following skills: Completes material testing report forms. Learns to operate moderate level surveying equipment. Serves as quality assurance inspector for single activities of construction work. Assists with conducting traffic counts. Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position: High School Diploma or GED Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills Effectively communicate both orally and written Knowledge of Engineering Plans and Construction Inspections.
