Job Description:

Senior Mechanical Engineer - Space Hardware

Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century's most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril's family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Own hardware design (CAD, hand calculations, prototypes, etc) from concept generation to launch. Intelligently pace design maturity with a holistic view of the program.
  • Use first principles as a basis for every decision. Continuously look for opportunities to simplify designs.
  • Communicate pros/cons of system architecture with respect to mechanical design and packaging considerations. Strong focus on good architecture to ensure designs are robust in nature.
  • Lead subsystem design reviews, present status to other team members, provide clear understanding of timelines and technical status.
  • Act as the Responsible Engineer for your systems: Run analysis, visit vendors, define and execute hardware test plans.
  • Build prototypes, analyze failures, and transition successful prototype designs to flight hardware and low rate production.
  • Travel to test sites and vendors as needed.
  • Create excellent technical documentation - slide packages, test plans and reports, procedures, assembly instructions, part and assembly drawings, vendor specifications and statements of work, etc.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS or higher degree in engineering or a hard science.
  • 3-10 years of mechanical design experience in a professional setting with space hardware. A positive track record of success and desire to grow and be a lead in this area.
  • CAD skills (any platform) and ability to make high quality engineering drawings that meet common industry standards.
  • Demonstrated hands-on fabrication and assembly skills. Experience working with hand tools, mill, lathe, etc.
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals: heat transfer, statics, solid mechanics, materials.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated, self-starting, and able to perform duties autonomously without supervision.
  • Very organized and willing to establish scope and requirements for ill-defined problems.
  • Passion for defending the United States and her allies.
  • Be able to obtain and hold a U.S. Top Secret security clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in NX/Teamcenter and Solidworks.
  • Experience in an immersive hands-on technical project in college or in free time.
  • Parallel industry experience.
  • Ability to integrate electronic components (PCBAs, motors, sensors etc.) into mechanical designs.
  • Experience working with (integrating in designs) optical or RF systems.
  • Experience developing code in higher-level languages (e.g. Python, MATLAB, C++) for developing analytical models and data acquisition and automation.
  • Structural or thermal testing experience - sensor selection, data acquisition, data post-processing (Python preferred).

US Salary Range

$120,000 - $200,000 USD

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations.
