SUMMARY OF POSITION

Performs a variety of professional engineering duties in the subject department; provides design, oversight, and administration of various engineering projects; evaluates and reviews engineering changes; ensures work quality and adherence to specifications. Individual works in daily contact with Production Staff, Engineers, and Management. Individual will manage multiple projects and communicate with Operations and Upper Management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepares layouts, drawings, or sketches of machinery or equipment, such as a shop tooling, scale layouts, or new equipment design, using drafting equipment or computer-aided design (CAD) software.

Develops, sources, and/or justifies capability improving capacity increasing equipment lines, and processes.

Manages portions of our entire capital projects including project scope and budgeting, presentation to management for approval, equipment design, installation, and start up.

Designs and implements cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety and reliability.Designs equipment to meet processing goals (cost, quality, and/or yield).

Considers the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints.

Design new features for existing machineries, for continuous process improvement.

Operate complex processing equipment.

Perform routine equipment maintenance.

Develops project specification with colleagues, often including those from other engineering disciplines.Works with others in engineering, fabrication/machining, plant management, line operators, vendors, contractors, etc. to develop best solutions and root cause analysis.

Technical expert: Roasting including:Acquire data to support validation and perform testing, such as: air velocity profiles and temperature controls.

Troubleshooting gas burners.

Balancing and tuning airflow.

Operation of Roaster during validation.

Technical expert: Dense Phase Conveyance including:Preventative maintenance activities.

Trouble shooting.

Velocity tuning.

Specifying and sourcing replacement parts.

Acquire higher level machine design knowledge to specify: tolerances for shafts, keys, sprockets; materials, and welding techniques.

Develops testing and evaluating theoretical designs.

Discusses and solves complex problems with manufacturing departments.

Plans and designs new production processes.

Produces details of specifications and outline designs.

Recommends modifications following prototype test results.

Designs, for food quality environment, manufacturability, and maintenance.

Writes and presents Capital Approval Requests (CAR's).

Prepared to perform any additional assignments in a needed basis.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Language skills

Strong verbal and written skills, and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.

Mathematical skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, along with computing ratios, and percentages.

Knowledge of statistics is desirable.

Reasoning ability

Detail oriented, organized and methodical.

Able to learn about new equipment and new testing procedures.

Able to maintain test equipment in working order.

Ability to work well in a team and be able to support all testing activities.

Able to file data, and write reports.

Able to interface with team members and customers to review data and follow up with action items.

Computer skills

Advanced knowledge to provide reports and/or data and documentation in various programs.

The utilization of computer software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) is key.

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or mechanical/design engineering or related field is preferred but an Associate's Degree will be considered with experience (experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience).

3-5 years engineering work experience in a manufacturing setting. Preferably experience in Plant engineering in food processing, material handling, and/or packaging.

Proficiently designs in AutoCAD and/or AutoDesk Inventor.

Familiarity with process controls is a plus.

Vast experience on a variety of mechanical appliances, having a solid understanding of how various machines and appliances work will be vital to success.

Basic reading and math skills to create and track work orders as well as calculate material quantities and measurements.

Able to execute implementation plans.

Creates solid cost/benefit analyses to evaluate ideas.

Understands technical skills necessary for all tasks.
