This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Associate Mechanical Engineer to support design and construction activities on major infrastructure projects throughout the United States and abroad. This position may be located in one of the following locations: Seattle, WA; Los Angeles, CA; Sacramento, CA.

Project Assignments may include: road and rail tunnels, transportation centers, transit maintenance facilities, commercial buildings and structures, bridges, substations, process facilities, parking structures and pump stations. This is an excellent technical position for an ambitious engineering graduate to work, learn, and be mentored in a supportive environment with a close knit group of mechanical engineers and design professionals and with abundant opportunity for advancement. It involves performing critical engineering functions on highly visible and significant projects for an internationally recognized global firm in a field designated for expansion.

Your Impact

  • Prepare design documents, calculations, drawings and specifications for mechanical systems including, road and rail tunnel fire smoke control systems, ventilation systems, HVAC systems, piping and hydraulic systems, drainage systems, pumping systems, and fire protection systems
  • Research and write on topics related to aspects of design of tunnel mechanical systems including movement of heat and smoke, combustion, fire dynamics, gas vaporization etc.
  • Perform Computational Fluid Dynamics and Finite Element analyses dealing with combustion, products of combustion and heat transfer.
  • Assist in the development of costs estimates for mechanical systems
  • Produce design elements using advanced 3D-CAD methods
  • Provide field inspection, system testing and other support during construction activities

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Recent graduate in an ABET accredited Mechanical Engineering, or related, Undergraduate or Graduate program.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products.
  • Have as a career goal to acquire a professional engineering license.
  • The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Revit, AutoCAD and/or Microstation software.
  • Academic emphasis on thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and or heat transfer.
  • Experience with computational fluid dynamics software or multi-physics finite element software are a plus.

Compensation:
Expected Salary: $65,000 - $107,290

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
