Provides specialized mechanical engineering expertise for the planning, design, modification, construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and instrumentation and control systems within SMUD facilities and generating plants.

Under general supervision, performs minor to moderately complex mechanical design and inspection tasks for new construction, modification, and maintenance of various power generating units and supporting infrastructure assets such as hydro, thermal, wind, photovoltaic, and gas pipeline. Prepares Design Change Notice (DCN) packages for this work to ensure generation operations.
