HDR is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services team in either Atlanta-GA, Charlotte-NC, or Raleigh-NC. Our team is looking for a candidate to meet the needs of our diverse client base including Commercial, Federal, Industrial, Science and Technology, Mission Critical and Water/Wastewater facilities, and Healthcare projects. We have a team with diverse experience and are actively seeking candidates with experience within one or more of the markets we serve. This individual should also have a desire to mentor and train younger mechanical engineers. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for leading teams and designing projects from start to finish. This will include coordinating and working closely with clients, project managers, mechanical team members, architects, other engineering disciplines, contractors, marketing members, and all other team members. They will be responsible for developing construction documents, specifications, engineering calculations, and performing RFI responses, shop drawing reviews, site investigation and overall construction administration. Passion, self-motivation, and strong leadership skills are a must to deliver technically excellent design solutions for our clients. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Providing detailed design and coordination of facilities with team members
  • Preparing construction documents with BIM/CADD platforms
  • Editing and preparing design specifications
  • Reviewing fee estimates, cost opinions, and writing technical documents
  • Performing QA/QC review of construction documents and technical reports
  • Selecting equipment using vendor software and communicating with sales reps
  • Tracking and meeting design budgets
  • Performing load calculations and Life Cycle Cost Analyses (LCCA)
  • Attending and leading design meetings with other team members
  • Providing construction administration service throughout all phases of construction

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • PE license required
  • Minimum of 10 years of consulting engineering experience; this must include a successful history of designing HVAC and plumbing systems for various types of buildings including one or more of the following building types: commercial office, federal, utility, water/wastewater, healthcare, mission critical, and laboratory facilities
  • Must be self-motivated and organized
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products required
  • Must be able to work independently and with a project team
  • Some travel will be required
  • An attitude and commitment to our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • BIM/Revit experience is highly recommended
  • Local candidates are preferred
