Job Description:

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of substation design, equipment operation, and electrical systems. You will be responsible for reviewing technical documentation, analyzing single line diagrams, and supporting the design, maintenance, and operation of substations. This role requires familiarity with both Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) and air-insulated substations, as well as a strong understanding of transformers, circuit breakers, relays, and monitoring tools like DGA (Dissolved Gas Analysis) and partial discharge monitoring. Occasional field travel may be required for on-site inspections, testing, or troubleshooting. Preference will be given to candidates with prior field experience working directly with substation equipment and operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and Interpret Single Line Diagrams (SLDs): Analyze, review, and provide expert input on substation single line diagrams to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards.

  • Substation Equipment Operation: Demonstrate a thorough understanding of substation components, including relays, circuit breakers, transformers, and other associated equipment.

  • Gas Insulated Substation Documentation: Evaluate and review documentation related to gas-insulated substations (GIS), ensuring proper specifications and operational functionality are met.

  • Transformer, Circuit Breaker, and Relay Knowledge: Apply expertise in transformer, relay, and circuit breaker operations, including maintenance, protection, troubleshooting, and control.

  • Online Monitoring Tools: Monitor and interpret data from Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA), partial discharge monitoring, and other online substation monitoring tools to assess equipment health and predict potential failures.

  • Station Reads: Monitor and interpret station readings and system data, providing insights into the performance of substation components and identifying potential issues.

  • Substation Design Review: Collaborate with design teams to ensure that substation designs meet all functional requirements, industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC), and regulatory codes.

  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all substation operations and equipment are compliant with industry regulations, safety protocols, and company standards.

  • Field Travel: Travel to substations for inspections, troubleshooting, testing, or commissioning as needed.

  • Technical Support and Troubleshooting: Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and ongoing operations of substation equipment.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, other engineers, and operations teams to ensure project milestones are achieved on time and within scope.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on substations, including gas-insulated substations (GIS).

  • Strong knowledge of single line diagrams and ability to review, interpret, and explain them in detail.

  • Proficiency in breaker, transformer, and relay operations, including maintenance, protection, and control.

  • Experience with online monitoring tools, including DGA and partial discharge monitoring.

  • Familiarity with substation design standards and industry codes such as IEEE, IEC, and others.

  • Experience with station reads and substation monitoring equipment.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Willingness to travel for field work and substation site visits as needed.

  • Preference for candidates with field experience working with substation equipment and systems.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.

  • Experience in substation design and construction.

  • Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.

  • Experience in both air-insulated and gas-insulated substation systems.

    • Only those lawfully authorized to work in the designated country associated with the position will be considered.

    • Please note that all Position start dates and duration are estimates and may be reduced or lengthened based upon a client's business needs and requirements.
