Job Title: Electrical Engineer - Substation Operations

Location: Oakland, CA

Job Type: Contract (5 months), On-site and Hybrid

Salary: $55 - $65/hour

About the Role:

Join our team as an Electrical Engineer specializing in substation operations. You'll play a vital role in reviewing technical documentation, analyzing single line diagrams, and supporting the design, maintenance, and operation of substations. With a focus on gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) and air-insulated substations, your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Review and interpret single line diagrams (SLDs)

Analyze substation equipment operation, including relays, circuit breakers, transformers, and GIS

Evaluate and review documentation related to gas-insulated substations

Demonstrate expertise in transformer, circuit breaker, and relay operations

Monitor and interpret data from DGA, partial discharge monitoring, and other online tools

Analyze station reads and system data

Collaborate with design teams to ensure substation designs meet industry standards

Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations

Travel to substations for inspections, troubleshooting, and commissioning

Provide technical support and troubleshooting

Work closely with project managers, other engineers, and operations teams

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field

5+ years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on substations

Strong knowledge of single line diagrams and ability to interpret them

Proficiency in breaker, transformer, and relay operations

Experience with online monitoring tools

Familiarity with substation design standards and industry codes

Experience with station reads and substation monitoring equipment

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Willingness to travel for field work

Preference for candidates with field experience working with substation equipment

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional Engineer (PE) license

Experience in substation design and construction

Familiarity with project management tools

Experience in both air-insulated and gas-insulated substation systems
