At IPS, you'll apply your knowledge, skills, and passion to make a difference in the lives of people, solving complex challenges related to pharmaceutical, biotech, and animal health research and manufacturing facilities. We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our team out of our office located in Somerset, New Jersey.

In this role, you will assist in planning, designing, and directing electrical engineering projects within the Design Department.

Position Responsibilities

Prepares design computations and quantity estimates and develops probable construction cost estimates for the smaller, less complex projects within the business unit (medium voltage power distribution, low voltage systems, fire alarm systems, backup power generation, electrical power distribution, life safety systems, etc.).

Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).

Modifies reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for the project.

Makes calculations using engineering formulas and skills for design such as lighting calculations, power distribution calculations, equipment sizing, etc.

Creates specialized drawings such as electrical riser diagrams.

Selects equipment based on recommendations of the Project Designer/Engineer and fills out equipment schedules.

Provides drawings for own designs and produces sketches to incorporate in drawings by drafters.

Researches design options and documents findings for Project Designer/Engineer.

Provides information to the Project Manager for incorporation into specifications.

Assures that drawings and designs are per company production and design standards.

Qualifications & Requirements:
2+ years of engineering/design experience in the building design industry (lighting systems, fire alarm systems, branch circuitry, etc.).

Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited four-year College or University.

Experience with the design of building electrical systems, such as building service, power distribution, generators, lighting, fire alarm, security, and other low voltage systems.

Have a strong understanding of the National Electric Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, IBC, and other related building codes and standards.

Is able to work 3 days a week from the Somerset, New Jersey office.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of engineering design programs and computer-aided drafting software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).

Experience with medium voltage systems, electrical hazardous classified areas, and telecommunications systems.
