Job Description
The purpose of this position is to identify and develop end-market usages for the stream of hard to recycle plastics collected from consumers in the Hefty EnergyBag. The residential stream of hard to recycle plastic presents quality challenges that add complexity to developing profitable, consistent end usages. This individual will play a vital role in identifying possible end markets, vet all possible usages and develop partnerships with selected end markets.
Responsibilities of the Senior Mechanical Engineer:
- Develop alternative end-market usages and vet them for the applicability of using the EnergyBag material.
- Develop the most environmentally preferred end usage in multiple locations
- Identify the required ideal processing conditions for each usage of the materials
- Identify and create any necessary pre-processing required for the optimal use of the material in the selected end market which may vary by location and processor
- Oversee the implementation and startup of any pre-processing required at each facility
- Working with marketing and legal departments, recommend and develop partnerships with selected end market processors.
- Develops, writes, implements, submits and/or presents various technical reports or capital requests in support of the new product, safety, quality, process improvement, or productivity initiatives.
- Involved in consumer research to support the project i.e. observation of products at focus groups, market research studies, etc.
- With Manufacturing & Engineering, analyzes program costs, i.e. product costs, prototyping costs, project capital & timing, etc.
- Supporting the Sampling effort requires direct on-the-floor coordination at the manufacturing facility.
- While on the floor , analyze project variables i.e. run speeds, scrap rates, etc., and confirm that established quality parameters have been achieved and the product has been approved for sale.
- Responsible for the maintenance and confidentiality of the project file systems i.e. databases, project plans, product technical drawings, etc.
- Projects will require up to 50% travel to support each program i.e., manufacturing facilities, end market plants, etc.
Requirements of the Senior Mechanical Engineer:
- BS degree in an Engineering discipline
- 5+ years of engineering experience
- Prior project management experience
- Exceptional skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel
- Plastics manufacturing background, especially in Blown Film Extrusion
- Process engineering experience with operational improvements
- Understanding of SAP and CMMS system software
- Troubleshooting, problem-solving, analytical and multitasking experience preferred.
