Introduction

We are seeking an accomplished Senior Mechanical Engineer with at least 7-9 years of experience to join our team developing state of the art small form factor software defined radio (SDR) platforms. The development of these platforms requires a variety of mechanical engineering activities throughout the entire project lifecycle. Specific job responsibilities include the following:


Job Responsibilities

  • Initial conceptual design/development of mechanical components, from simple mounting brackets to complete enclosures
  • Modeling of mechanical components to confirm design feasibility
  • Detailed CAD implementation of a design, including design package for fabrication
  • Working with hardware and layout teams to design custom printed circuit boards
  • Thermal analysis of design to understand operational limitations
  • Working with engineering and production teams to ensure design for manufacturability
  • Development of support documentation and inventory management to transition a design in to production
Requirements:

Job Requirements

  • BS and/or MS in mechanical engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Minimum of 7 years of industry experience developing real-world solutions
  • Experience designing small form factor electronics enclosures often with demanding thermal performance requirements
  • Ability and willingness to execute on projects from initial concept phase to fabrication of production units
  • Comfortable tackling a complete mechanical design using 3D CAD software (preferably SolidWorks)
  • Experience designing both sheet metal and machined parts
  • Experience with manufacturing challenges and designing for manufacturability
  • Familiarity with printed circuit board design and assembly processes
  • Effective communicator with both internal teammates and external customers (includes both oral and written communications)
  • Must be a self-starter, willing to pitch in where needed for the greater good of the team
  • Ability to work independently, completing development tasks with minimal supervision
  • Employee must either have or be willing and able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship


Desired Skills

  • Experience with wireless communications systems and familiarity with RF concepts such as EMI/RFI and antennas
  • Familiarity with ruggedized product design and environmental testing
  • Understanding of the importance of simple robust design concepts
  • Capable of balancing aesthetic design with sound mechanical engineering principles
  • Knowledge of design materials and how to apply properly per application
  • Experience with version control (PDM, ePDM)
  • Experience developing rapid prototypes of mechanical components using standard fabrication tools including milling machines, metalworking lathes, metal bending brakes, etc.
  • Capability and willingness to tackle technical development tasks outside their domain of expertise
