Raytheon Vision Systems (RVS) is a world leader in the research, design, and manufacturing of focal plane arrays and flight-based vision systems. Our Focal Plane Operations Process Engineering department provides world class semiconductor and focal plane array manufacturing processes in support of production and development products. We have an opportunity for a talented Optical Thin Films Process Engineer with a background in infrared optical coatings.

The ideal candidate will have familiarity with all aspects of Optical Coating technology, including designs, models, materials, and processes. The candidate will provide guidance to a staff of energetic engineers and skilled technicians to develop strategies for advanced coating technologies. The candidate will work with other engineering disciplines to determine strategies for incorporating coated windows, lenses, filters, and detector antireflective coatings into optical systems.

The candidate should have technical proficiency in the manufacture of semiconductor components or microelectronics using vacuum system deposition processing as well as proficiency and comfort in interfacing with multiple functions including Product Engineering, Systems Engineering, Quality, Mechanical Design Engineering, Factory Management, Equipment Engineering and Process Engineering. Specific knowledge of the processes and materials used in Infrared Detector technology is desirable. The ability to collaborate well with other engineering disciplines is essential, as well as the ability to be an effective verbal and written communicator.

What You Will Do

  • Writing and reviewing specifications for optical coatings, including spectral performance requirements, environmental and chemical exposure requirements, durability, and surface quality requirements
  • Modeling and designing coatings for manufacturing in-house.
  • Performing trade studies for optimization of optical coatings strategy
  • Managing process development and improvement projects, including novel processing techniques, yield increase, throughput, and safety improvements
  • Developing requirements and qualification plans for new equipment procurements.

  • Providing Process Ownership of one or more vacuum coating tools using e-beam Evaporation or Ion Beam Sputtering - including writing and certifying work instructions and defining yield improvement plans

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a STEM degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years' experience as a Process or Manufacturing Engineer in an Optics, Electro-Optics and/or Microelectronics environment. Or an advanced degree with 3 years of related experience in Process or Manufacturing Engineer in an Optics, Electro-Optics and/or Microelectronics environment .
  • The Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government issued clearance is required. U.S. Citizenship is required as only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Direct experience with electron beam, thermal evaporation, or ion beam sputtering technology
  • Ability to work in a cleanroom environment wearing frock garments.
  • Experience in engineering computing, including MATLAB, Python or other related language.
  • Experience in designing Optical Coatings using optical coating modeling software
  • Familiarity with metrology equipment and characterization of Optical Coatings and/or optical components
  • Knowledge of statistical process control and design of experiments

The salary range for this role is 85,000 USD - 179,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
