THE OPPORTUNITY

The Senior Power Generation & Distribution Engineer will lead and manage the design, development, and reliability improvement of electrical power systems for various industrial applications. This role requires a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, control system design, and reliability management. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in power generation/distribution, motor reliability & control, instrumentation, and automation systems. They will work closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, mechanical engineers, and software engineers, to deliver high-quality solutions that meet safety, reliability, and efficiency standards.

Key responsibilities:
  • Design and Development:
    • Lead the design and development of electrical power generation/distribution systems, and associated instrumentation.
    • Develop detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts.
    • Specify and select electrical components, such as transformers, circuit breakers, motor starters, drives, and control devices.
  • System Integration:
    • Integrate electrical systems with mechanical systems and other subsystems.
  • Project Management:
    • Manage multiple projects from concept to completion, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
    • Collaborate with project managers, maintenance/reliability teams, procurement teams, and other stakeholders to coordinate project activities.
  • Testing and Commissioning:
    • Oversee the testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of electrical systems.
    • Develop and execute test plans for new and replacement power generation and distribution systems
  • Maintenance/Reliability and Support:
    • Provide technical support and guidance for the maintenance and troubleshooting of existing systems.
    • Develop preventive maintenance plans and procedures to ensure system reliability and uptime.
    • Develop risk-based life cycle management plans for assets nearing end of useful life
  • Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure all designs and installations comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to protect personnel and equipment.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and maintenance records.
    • Generate technical reports and presentations for stakeholders and management.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
    • Identify opportunities for system optimization and process improvements.

ABOUT YOU
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is highly desirable.
  • 8+ years of experience in power generation and distribution systems , with a strong background in a heavy industrial setting.
  • Experience with power generation and distribution systems, including high, medium and low voltage systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEC).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for electrical design and simulation tools.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in industries such as manufacturing, oil and gas, energy, or utilities.
