Role Summary/Purpose The
Material & Process (M&P) Engineer serves as the Materials & Process Engineering focal for current production program. This includes working with the various functional groups (Engineering team and Operations organization) in support of productivity, cost out and quality improvements.
The M&P Engineer will work in the Materials and Processing Engineering team, on site at Middle River, supporting operations and quality in the composite bonding and assembly work groups. The engineer will serve as a project leader and/or provide support for assigned projects from beginning to end. Such projects usually require various types of testing and analysis across a wide range of material characteristics - physical, mechanical, thermal, and/or chemical. This testing and analysis can be performed using full scale and/or reduced scale components as well as with various industry/company standard test coupons/specimens. Engineers are also called upon to offer direct support of production both on-site and off-site in support of the business supply chain.
The engineer demonstrates an ability work independently (when required), and in collaboration with others, effectively interfacing and integrating their activities within the engineering organization. An ability to establish and manage multiple projects within time constraints is required. The candidate is also responsible for timely identification and communication of project obstacles to engineering technical leads.
- Serves as the M&P focal for operations in support of process, material, and MRB related activities.
- Supports all Operation centric meetings to provide technical guidance and/or direction on product and material quality issues.
- Collaborates with engineers and others within the business to achieve project objectives.
- Assists in establishing technical requirements, objectives & timing.
- Provides technical guidance and mentoring to engineering technicians, hourly shop personnel, and others.
- Executes plans to achieve defined project and departmental goals.
- Effective, timely, and accurate communication to internal customers, supply chain, and external customers.
- Leads/supports supplier process/product/capability level reviews for compliance to MRAS engineering and quality requirements through the MRAS Vendor Substantiation process.
- Supports engineering drawing and specification reviews through the configuration control board for assigned programs.
- Supports additional technology development projects as needed to support production goals.
- Limited domestic/international travel may be required (up to 20%).
Qualifications/Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering or equivalent field from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Minimum 1 year experience in an operations-based role/environment.
- Technical background in composites or other similar materials-based industry.
- Foundational to advanced knowledge in one or more composite manufacturing processes, including but not limited to: pre-preg hand lay-up, automated fiber placement, autoclave and oven curing, core forming/bonding.
- Experience with Engineering drawings and materials and process specifications.
- Working knowledge of material analysis techniques (microscopy, mechanical testing, physical property testing, etc.)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Solid organizational skills and attention to detail with minimal direct supervision.

Estimate salary range for this role: $64,478 to $95,889 per year. ST Engineering considers several factors with extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates' key skills, relevant work experience, education/training/certification, job level, and work location. Base salary is only one component of our competitive Total Rewards package.
