Eikon Therapeutics is a new biopharmaceutical company employing revolutionary technology at the intersection of chemistry, engineering, computation, and biology to discover novel treatments for life-threatening diseases. Eikon's discovery platform is built on groundbreaking innovations from its founders (Nobel Prize, 2014), culminating in the creation of microscopes which enable real time, molecular-resolution measurements of protein movement in living cells, thereby unlocking otherwise intractable classes of proteins as drug targets.

Position

As a Sr. Staff Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and optimizing intricate mechanical systems that are integral to our biotechnology initiatives. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping projects at the convergence of biology and technology, and help push for the discovery of new therapeutics.

About You

The ideal candidate for this role will lead the design and engineering of advanced mechanical systems in the field of biotechnology, demonstrating expertise in mechanical engineering principles and proficiency in CAD modeling. They will collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to solve complex biological and technological challenges and create precise mechanical designs. With expertise and experience in mechanical design that applies to automation and microscopy, this candidate will also guide testing and validation efforts, provide mentorship to junior team members, and spearhead the implementation of their design. Their leadership, enthusiasm, problem-solving skills, and adaptability in a dynamic environment will be key assets.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design and engineering of sophisticated mechanical systems, devices, and components aligned with the goals of our biotech endeavors.
  • Collaborate seamlessly with interdisciplinary teams to identify opportunities for applying mechanical engineering principles to solve intricate challenges within the domain of biology and technology.
  • Utilize advanced CAD software and other design tools to craft meticulous mechanical designs that meet stringent functional and manufacturing criteria.
  • Guide the selection of appropriate materials, manufacturing methodologies, and technologies to create innovative mechanical solutions.
  • Spearhead testing and validation efforts for mechanical systems, addressing complexities and refining designs to achieve optimal performance, dependability, and safety.
  • Create comprehensive technical documentation that encompasses defining functional requirements, detailing design specifications, producing technical drawings, creating rigorous testing protocols and test reports.
  • Mentor and share expertise with junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Communicate with vendors and other external partners to ensure delivery of components and custom hardware.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in mechanical engineering and related domains, integrating new insights into ongoing projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 12 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree with 8 years of relevant experience or a PhD with 5 years of relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, coupled with a deep-rooted understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks), FEA, and simulation tools for mechanical, thermal, and fluid dynamics.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical components, materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical tolerance analysis.
  • Experience in fluidic handling, microfluidic design, opto-mechanical systems, motion control, and robotic systems.
  • Expertise in scripting (Python) for automation, thermal management, and sensor control in design/testing.
  • Familiarity with modular/system-level testing, GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2009), and machine shop tools.
  • Proficient in the product development lifecycle, including PLM/QMS tools (Arena is a plus).
  • Strong collaboration skills, experience with external suppliers, and knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, and SharePoint.
  • Proven problem-solving, communication, leadership abilities, and technical lead experience.
  • Exposure to multidisciplinary collaboration (optical, electrical, software, automation) and biological applications is a plus.
  • Adaptable to fast-paced, evolving environments.

The expected salary range for this role is $178,000 to $194,750 depending on skills, competency, and the market demand for your expertise.
