Job Description:

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Industrial Market team. The position requires the ability to help support the firm's Business Development Principals as well as being the primary technical representative for the firm in the pursuing, proposing and securing consulting services that support manufacturing clients. The position will require the assistance and/or taking the lead in preparing professional proposals for mechanical consulting services for potential projects. The strong ability to concisely convey technical issues and related service offerings to clients, in a manner that secures their confidence, is a must. The candidate will serve as the technical expert for the firm in mechanical engineering, and will be able to demonstrate the ability to assist clients through the feasibility, programming and planning stages of projects, continuing through the final engineering design. The successful candidate should be able to: Conceptualize the initial mechanical design approach for major phases of large industrial projects through installation, with an emphasis on specifying equipment, calculating loads, ductwork and pipe sizing, selection of HVAC equipment such as pumps, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchanger and air washer units. Prepare engineering reports, plans and specifications for industrial projects. Design and produce engineering drawings and instructions based on calculations. Interpret and revise engineering drawings. Conceive, plan and conduct research in complex problem areas. Prepare plans and technical specifications, contract documents and estimates. Select and size equipment for systems. Supervise the installation, repair and replacement of systems and ensure specifications and safety standards are met. Participate in contract bidding and administration. Supervise and observe the design and ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with City, State and County officials and other outside agencies. Lead the coordination of projects with clients, contractors, outside consultants and firm staff. Communicate and interact with project team members, client representatives, review agencies and others as appropriate to project. Lead in conceiving, planning and conducting research to resolve a variety of complex problems (e.g., conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements). Must have a good understanding of codes and standards applicable to industrial design including but not limited to: ASHRAE, ASME, NFPA, and the IBC code set. Check and approve shop drawings. Able to devise innovative solutions to unusual engineering problems. Have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient at interpretation and creation of PFDs, P&IDs, and UFDs. Familiar with plumbing system design including working knowledge of common plumbing and fire protection codes and standards. Performs other duties as required. Valid Driver License is required to travel to job sites. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Prefer a minimum of 13+ years in mechanical engineering systems design experience with a consulting firm for Industrial/Manufacturing/Process projects. Professional Engineer license, P.E., required. Outstanding knowledge of ASHRAE, IBC code set, and NFPA codes standards. Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong team player. Desirable Skills that are a "Plus": Digitally curious and comfortable diving in and working with coding and automation Design automation skills, including the application of parametric design tools such as Dynamo and Grasshopper Software Coding -especially with Python, and/or C# Working with Revit's API Power BI for data visualization Gresham Smith is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
