Job Description:

Overview We are seeking a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer with thermal design experience for our Automotive OEM design team in Olathe, KS. In this role, you will be responsible for providing advanced engineering skills and project planning for mechanical or electromechanical solutions. Garmin designs and manufactures infotainment and related vehicle electronics for Automotive OEMs such as BMW, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, and Toyota. Essential Functions Able to complete the most difficult tasks as a Master CAD-user including the completion of complex mechanical designs Knowledge of injection molding, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining, material requirements, material performance, material limitations, etc. Specify test plans, mock up and test complex mechanical systems with complex performance requirements to validate and verify compliance with design requirements Manage basic tradeoffs, determine risk mitigation plans, determine project goal/objective feasibility, provide technical input to product development plans/concept documents, and drive process vendors to evaluate complex mechanical designs and understand risk Lead explorations of new technologies and make estimates on moderately complex mechanical designs including: tooling, part cost, and design time Knowledge of Industry and Garmin product qualification tests (environmental and others) Provide reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques and offer process improvements and author new procedures Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience Experience with thermal design Demonstrated knowledge and capability to use CATIA software for completing complex mechanical designs Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills Desired Qualifications Expert CAD user in CATIA Experience in Automotive, Aviation, Medical or other high-reliability industry Thermal design experience for electronics cooling including integration of fans, heat sinks, vapor chambers and liquid cold plates Prior experience working with external customers Proficient in interpretation and application of GD&T Electronic packaging / electronic enclosure design experience Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
