The Blue Ring team is looking for a materials and processing engineer to join our team and pave the road to successful launch. The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit. As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will collaborate closely with design, manufacturing, quality, and integration engineers to define material requirements and efficiently implement production solutions. You will lead material and process spacecraft development, testing, and qualification efforts. This role will begin with a first-of-its-kind satellite in development and grow with the product line through multiple missions and objectives. Responsibilities: Evaluate and select materials for usage on Blue Ring, taking into consideration mechanical properties, thermal properties, and environmental factors Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to integrate material and process requirements into the overall vehicle or system design Provide technical support and disposition of nonconformance's from the application of material and/or process control requirements implementation Review of development and production drawings for large complex assemblies to meet M&P requirements and program objectives. Ultimately you will act as M&P signatory for engineering drawings Support REs with design, analysis, materials selection, process development, and M&P qualification for space vehicles Support with broad materials & processes support for metallic materials including: forming, plating, coating, anodization, bonding, and passivation Lead and coordinate internal and external M&P efforts, including development of specifications, supplier qualification, First Article Inspection, mechanical testing Support the development of the Blue Ring M&P discipline processes to standardize and increase efficiency M&P Level III Qualifications: B.S. degree or higher in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing, or relevant field 5+ Years of demonstrated M&P Engineering experience on a production program Familiarity with materials and process development and qualification specific to spacecraft applications Experience with space rated materials used in structural applications (e.g. Lubricants, fasteners, metallics, polymer materials) Familiarity with materials and processes in one or more of these areas of focus: metallic materials, cable and harness, EEE, propulsion, or CPV. Experience with technical document generation Proven ability to prioritize and handle small and large projects with a diversity of customers Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Desired: Active Top Secret/SCI preferred. Participation in process development and qualification for materials in a production manufacturing environment for use in space Experience preparing specifications, test reports, and other documentation Experience developing and carrying out test plans for material development and qualification testing Experience collaborating on the development of internal engineering and quality processes to standardize and accelerate material evaluation and implementation Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize Expertise with spacecraft electrical bonding and contamination control Proven experience managing technology development projects, measuring technical progress, and resources, and managing budgets Familiarity with NASA-STD-6016, SMC-S-009, and other aerospace materials & processes requirements Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.
