Mechanical Engineer, (Facilities), Full-Time, On-site, Easton, PA GENERAL SUMMARY: Serves an essential role in the manufacturing of Crayola's products safely and efficiently. Training in the broad discipline of mechanical engineering gives this position the expertise needed to maintain the critical infrastructure upon which all manufacturing relies. This highly technical position provides Crayola with the in-house expertise that outside engineering services are not capable of providing in a discrete, timely or cost-effective manner. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Strong knowledge of and responsible for Mechanical Systems including chillers, cooling towers, supply distribution piping and pumps, air compressors and dryers, air-handlers, make-up air units, VFDs, boilers, exhaust fans, heat exchangers, tanks, process cooling water and DI water systems. Proven ability to work in a large, complex environment where you must adapt to meet company needs. Responsible for mechanical engineering support as needed for the design, operation, and maintenance of Crayola's manufacturing assets in the Lehigh Valley, Mexico and TCE locations in close collaboration with multiple departments. Design mechanical components, sub-assemblies and complete machine assemblies as needed; present results in the form of 3D drawings using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) standards. Design piping systems including material selection, pump/line sizing calculations, valve sizing, component selection and present results in the form of process flow diagram, piping & instrumentation diagrams and 3D piping drawings including bills of material. Lead cross-functional teams in the use of structured problem-solving methods to determine root causes of chronic manufacturing problems and identify cost-effective solutions. Manage capital projects of unlimited size including design reviews, cost estimates, design & installation specifications, scheduling, communication, factory & site acceptance testing, safety audits and financial accounting. Provide on-site supervision and technical support during emergency maintenance events 24/7. JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program. Five or more years of professional experience providing technical support in a manufacturing/facility environment. Expert knowledge of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, strength of materials, metallurgy and mechanics as applied to the equipment and processes used in a manufacturing environment. Proficient in the use of 3D solid modeling software for the design and drafting of parts and assemblies, piping systems and equipment layouts, (SolidWorks preferred). Experience with structured problem-solving methods; Six Sigma DMAIC or Lean A3 preferred. Extensive experience with the practices and skills employed by the industrial trades including the HVAC installer, insulator, machinist, mechanic, metal fabricator, millwright, pipefitter and welder trades. Working knowledge of all applicable manufacturing codes and standards including ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, ASTM testing and materials standards and Factory Mutual insurance guidelines. Strong writing and presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization as well as external business partners.
