POSITION SUMMARY: The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for design, development, documenting, testing, and implementing components and processes to advance technologies in health care education simulators. He/she will liaise between various departments to deliver designs fit for manufacturing, while being able to troubleshoot problems that production technicians encounter. This position serves as a support in the continuous development of products used in our simulation technology. Team members actively participate in the end-to-end development cycle and play a vital role in our constant pursuit of continuously improving the parts and materials used in the evolution of our best in class simulation products. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: This position receives direct supervision from the Senior Director, R&D Engineering; may assist other departmental employees in the performance of the job functions. Does not exercise supervision over any position. Frequently exercises discretion. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Research, design, develop, verify, validate, and launch products as they move through the development cycle from concept to production. Manages all product related details, including developing plans and schedules, generating BOMs, developing DMR, DHF, product specifications, and budgets/cost analysis. Designs and implements parts, molds, materials, systems, and/or processes to improve realism and product reliability Develops project specifications in collaboration with a cross functional teams and other engineering disciplines Responsible for developing testing requirements and evaluating theoretical designs Collaborates with others to efficiently resolve complex problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers; Ensures product reliability and manufacturability meet product performance standards consistently according to specified operating environments Manages projects using engineering principles and techniques and considers the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints Plans and designs new production processes and produces details of specifications and outline designs Recommends modifications following prototype test results Conducts research and uses analytical, conceptual and planning skills, particularly CAD to develop mechanical solutions Works cross functionally with other professionals, within and outside the engineering functions Performs other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline with 1 year of related experience 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. 2+ years of CAD Design experience, preferably using SolidWorks Good organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy, ability to multi-task and team oriented. Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Fluency in both English and Spanish (speaking and written) preferred. Strong mechanical engineering experience with an emphasis on product design. Hands-on experience with a background in prototyping and testing Experience with material, part, and systems development preferred Knowledge of mold design and molding techniques a plus PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to express and exchange ideas and information in both written and verbal formats to convey detailed instructions with accuracy. Ability to communicate (read and write) effectively in a business environment. Ability to follow procedures and instructions. Ability to sit at a desk for long periods to assemble documentation and record data. Ability to walk the facilities to collect necessary data. Ability to lift, pull, push and carry objects and supplies (up to 20lbs). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use his/her fingers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to exercise independent judgment in determining how to conduct assigned tasks. Should possess excellent eye-to-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
