Job Description:

The primary responsibility of the Sr. Facilities Engineer - Electrical is to serve as a technical resource and lead for electrical power supply for SM Permian Basin facilities. These facilities primarily include wellpads, tank batteries, and water disposal facilities. The engineer will coordinate with other Facilities engineers, construction personnel, Utility representatives, contractors, maintenance specialists, and operations personnel to support the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of electrical infrastructure and to help ensure adequate electrical power for all SM facilities. May serve as a project leader on assignments requiring broad knowledge. This job is based in SM's Midland, Texas office, and will require travel to field locations as needed. JOB SCOPE: Become familiar with the existing SM Energy and Utility infrastructure by means of documentation, field visits, and communication with Utility. Work with Asset Teams and other Facilities Engineers to forecast new well/ facility electrical power requirements and evaluate current VS required electrical power supply by area. Develop load requests and submit to Utility well in advance of facility startup. Communicate with Utility to ensure electrical power is delivered on time. Design and help procure temporary generated power systems for cases where Utility power will not be available in time for facility start-ups. Optimize equipment, fuel sources, and system arrangements to minimize costs while providing adequate and reliable electrical power. Model current and future systems (powerlines, capacitor banks, transformers, fuses, etc.) to determine all required permanent equipment needs. Design and layout new electrical equipment installations including power line routings. Work with Land department to procure right-of-way. Estimate costs of electrical infrastructure projects, write AFEs, and obtain funding. Track and report project costs and project status and produce AFE revisions if necessary. Work alongside Construction to source material and bid contract labor. Assist in project execution, including contractor management and inspection, check-out and startup, operating procedure development, and personnel training. Troubleshoot electrical system problems. Monitor incoming power quality and request Utility corrections when necessary. Provide power supply retail negotiation support to ensure SM Energy receives the best cost per kWh Provide information and training on electrical safety. Stay abreast of electrical code requirements and regulations. On call support, including nights and weekends, may be required for field locations EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in engineering required, with extensive experience in electrical system design and operations Minimum 6 years of industry experience. Experience working with the oil & gas industry highly preferred Experience with automation & process control preferred Expert level of skill in Microsoft Office. Experience with commonly used industry software, Spotfire preferred.
