Job Description:

ECS is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work at Stennis Space center in Mississippi.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) located at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi.

The NDBC's mission is to collect and share real-time data about the marine environment to help with maritime safety and to understand and predict the climate, ocean, waves, ice, and atmosphere.

The NDBC's work includes engineering support for:
  • Buoys: The NDBC designs, develops, operates, and maintains a network of buoys that collect data. The buoys measure and transmit data such as air and sea temperature, wind speed, direction, and gust, barometric pressure, and wave energy spectra.
  • Coastal stations: The NDBC also maintains coastal stations that collect data.
  • Data sharing: The NDBC shares data, guides, and documentation on its website. The data includes station metadata and station measurements.

This NDBC position is located on Stennis, Mississippi this is not a remote position but, there is the possibility for some telework work.

  • Experience with design/repair/overhaul of marine systems, including hulls, appendages, superstructures, marine ocean structures, mooring, piping, power and cable systems.
  • Past experience with full lifecycle product development (design, develop, test prototypes, manufacture) producing prototype and production drawing packages
  • Project engineering experience and marine structural design experience.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Auto-Desk or similar 3D modeling software.
  • BS in Mechanical, Ocean or Marine Engineering or related Engineering discipline
  • At least 2 years of experience preferred
