By joining our Department of Highways/Off of Project Delivery & Preservation/Division of Traffic Operations as a/an Transportation Engineering Assistant II in Franklin County, you'll have the opportunity to review, analyze and perform intermediately complex engineering activities and work to obtain and develop professional engineering techniques. Holders of the Transportation Engineering Assistant II position will complete tasks such as: Provide preliminary engineering sign designs, support beam designs, cost estimates, and work orders Assist in managing the statewide sign database Provide weekly updates on sign maintenance projects Holders of this job will obtain the following skills: Work individually to assess signing needs and solutions Work as a team toward a collective final decision Sign design principles and techniques including software usage Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position: Basic understanding of the highway system and how signs integrate into that ecosystem Some experience using GuideSign This position is mostly performed in an office environment at a desk, but will occasionally call for field reviews or other travel. Minimum Requirements EDUCATION: High school graduate. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of engineering-related experience, maintenance, construction, or experience on a structures crew. Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Related technical or vocational training will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification.
