Our Ideal Candidate


We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our team in Vancouver (preferred), Nanaimo or Victoria. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for supporting project proposals; work scope and cost estimates; preparation of industrial electrical, control and instrumentation designs; and related documents. Other duties include project engineering, preparation of procurement specifications and test plans, vendor document reviews, construction support and participating in the commissioning of systems, off and on-site. You will work on a variety of projects from concept to implementation and apply your broad knowledge and experience on a wide range of different tasks within the discipline.

Using your considerable organizational, communication and people skills, you will work with highly collaborative multi-discipline teams to ensure projects are completed within allotted schedules and budgets, and to high-quality standards.


A Day in the Life


  • Lead the electrical engineering and design for industrial plants and process projects including medium & high voltage power distribution, substation and switchgear design, motor control centers, power and control schemes, single line diagrams, equipment and cable tray layouts, cable and conduit routings, grounding, lighting layouts and completing power studies;
  • Contributing to instrumentation and controls engineering and design, including process control systems (DCS/PLC), instrumentation specification and design, and cable schedules;
  • Responsible for the quality and approval of engineering drawings and documentation;
  • Lead the electrical scope for project feasibility studies and capital cost estimates, guiding clients and interfacing with utility companies for design and study requirements;
  • Develop and review power system studies;
  • Specification, review and approval of HV/MV/LV electrical equipment for procurement, including transformers, switchgear, modular e-houses, UPS, MCC, and generators.
  • Able to complete projects on time and within budget;
  • Ensure that engineering design specifications are as per contract;
  • Participate in site audits and site scoping visits to evaluate electrical design requirements
  • Interact with project managers, suppliers, clients and contractors;
  • Troubleshoot electrical and I&C issues;
  • Provide support to contractors during construction and commissioning;
  • Prepare reports and memorandums to outline design information or decisions for client review, approval review approve vendor drawings;
  • Conduct meetings with clients and contractors.


What You'll Bring to the Team


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Registered or eligible for P.Eng registration in the Province of British Columbia is a requirement
  • Registration as a PE in the US is an asset
  • A thorough understanding of power related studies (Load Flow, Power Factor Correction, Protective Device Coordination, Short Circuit, Arc Flash, and Ground Grid, as a minimum) is an asset.
  • 15+ years of experience in an industrial design, plant and/or construction environment.
  • Experience with high voltage power distribution and substation design
  • Proficient in engineering software applications such as database tools, AutoCAD, Easy Power and/or ETAP;
  • Broad knowledge of all electrical and controls design areas including substations, utility interfaces, power distribution, system studies, electrical services, process control systems, variable frequency drives, PLC, DCS, HMI systems would be an asset;
  • Thorough understanding of codes, governing regulations, and industry practices;
  • Project engineering and/or consulting engineering experience is an asset;
  • Experience in the Mining industry is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills (interpersonal and written) and proven leadership skills and ability to collaborate with team members and interface with clients in a multi-disciplined environment.
  • Technical competence and strong attention to detail.
  • Self-starter attitude
