As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Wood, you will play a crucial role in the design and implementation of mechanical systems and processes for our Minerals and Metals clients. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions that meet client requirements while adhering to industry standards and best practices. This position offers an opportunity to showcase your technical expertise, leadership skills, and industry knowledge in a dynamic and challenging environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Business Development team in identifying business opportunities. Contributes to project proposals and plans to determine timeframe, mechanical engineering activities, skills requirements, and assignment of mechanical engineering resources to various phases of the project.
  • Lead and manage mechanical engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Review and document project requirements including reliability, redundancy, and efficiency of the mechanical system(s).
  • Approve mechanical design criteria, specifications, and standards, and adopt, and or verify that, these codes, standards, and regulations are followed when designing mechanical systems.
  • Develop innovative and efficient mechanical designs, including equipment layouts, piping systems, material handling systems, and structural components. Conduct or oversee stress analysis and simulation to validate design integrity.
  • Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation plans to ensure project success and client satisfaction.
  • Conduct technical reviews and approve vendor documentation, purchase requisitions, price inquiries, and prepare Letter of Recommendations for mechanical engineering packages.
  • Supervise and coordinate work of mechanical design team.
  • Implement rigorous quality control processes to ensure that all mechanical engineering deliverables meet the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Establish strong relationships with Minerals and Metals clients, understanding their needs, and providing tailored engineering solutions. Participate in project review meetings and act as a point of contact for technical discussions and project updates.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and drafters, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Provide support during project construction, commissioning, and startup activities.


QUALIFICATIONS

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field (master's degree preferred).
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including 5 years of design experience working with an engineering firm, for minerals and metals projects.
  • Design and Engineering expertise in systems related to Minerals and Metals such as Crushing, Grinding, and or Material Handing and Conveyance.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ANSYS, etc.).
  • Understanding of industry-specific regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
