Job Description:

Work location can either be in Toronto, Hamilton, or Kitchener.


Playing an important part in the design team, the Senior Mechanical Engineer is a team player with the ability to receive and execute instructions from the Lead Mechanical Engineer or Project Manager with minimal supervision. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will also provide guidance and delegate to junior or intermediate engineering staff.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strong experience with all phases of design including concept design, design development, working drawings, tendering, and contract administration
  • Solid experience presenting design concepts and mechanical contract documents to client, consultants, and project stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of local building codes and design standards (i.e. OBC, NFPA, ASHRAE, CSA, ANSI, ASME)
  • Experience designing & coordinating sustainable MEP systems (i.e. geothermal, central air-source heat pump, water-to-water heat pump, VRF, Solar PV)
  • Prepare Agenda's, lead client and stakeholder meetings
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources
  • Maintain effective communication with clients, contractors and authorities having jurisdiction
  • Establish and maintain project criteria and communicate it to project teams
  • Work directly with and support Senior team members along with overseeing and directing junior/intermediate members of the production/engineering team
  • Prepare contract documents, schedules, details and sketches from conceptual design, through to tender and construction
  • Ensure CAD/Revit Standards, Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures are followed during drawing planning and production
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, ASHRAE, NFPA, and industry standards
  • Ability to apply prescriptive requirements of mechanical building services engineering codes with minimal supervision
  • Strong experience in planning and managing projects, preparation of materials, cost/timing estimates, reporting and producing high level schematics/specifications
  • Work to and meet project timelines and assist in developing and meeting project budgets
  • Co-ordinate project requirements with all team members both internal and external disciplines
  • Support Construction Administration personnel including field reviews and co-ordination, review and issuance of Change Orders, Clarifications, review shop drawings and RFI responses on an occasional or as required basis

EDUCATION / LICENSING / CERTIFICATION

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
  • Project Portfolio to demonstrate CAD and Revit experience and capabilities
  • Driver's License


PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years experience
  • Strong proficiency with AutoCAD, BIM (Revit) MEP, engineering software, MS Office including word and excel
  • Experience writing technical reports, working on healthcare and laboratory projects
  • Energy modeling experience will be considered an asset
  • Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to participate in business development
  • Experience in complex systems design such as laboratories, healthcare, institutional, and civic projects would be considered an asset
  • Detailed understanding and experience in the design of HVAC, Hydronic systems, plumbing systems, fire protection systems and medical gases within all typologies but specifically within institutional, healthcare, and laboratory projects.
  • Detailed understanding of sustainable and LEED concepts, applications and related certification programs (NetZero) would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with energy modelling software such as IES, eQuest, and RETscreen would be considered an asset
  • Ability to support the CA process collaborating with team members to issues the required paperwork
