Job Description:

Hylid Diagnostics is developing a point-of-care (POC) blood analysis system to change the lives of chronic disease patients around the globe.


The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, prototyping, characterizing and validating mechanical aspects of the blood analysis system, including the handheld instrument, the disposable microfluidic test cartridges and associated manufacturing processes.


The successful candidate will be a key contributor in all phases of design including requirements gathering, project planning, design, prototyping, testing, material selection and specification, verifications and validations, and production automation.


Hylid Diagnostics moves quickly, so being self-motivated, disciplined and a fast learner is key to being successful in this role. We are looking for enthusiastic engineers with a passion for hands-on work.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Produce innovative solutions to complex technical problems in the fields of microfluidics, test cartridge design, instrument design and manufacturing
  • Execute successive design-build-test iterations to optimise the product
  • Drive down the cost-of-goods-sold (COGS) by relentless removal of unnecessary parts and manufacturing processes
  • Manage projects to meet objectives, timelines and costs
  • Work with outside vendors to develop part manufacturing
  • Work with outside vendors to develop manufacturing equipment
  • Produce all necessary documentation, including drawings, specifications, test reports
  • Perform regulatory activities such as verifications and validations


Skills & Qualifications (Education and Experience)

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related disciplines
  • 5+ years of hands-on engineering product development experience
  • Demonstrated mastery of fundamental engineering principles
  • Experience in medical device development preferred
  • Experience in a variety of manufacturing processes, such as injection moulding, rotary die converting, laser converting, machining and 3D printing
  • Experience designing for high-volume manufacturing, both manual and automated
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Skilled in the use of SolidWorks or similar CAD platforms
