We are currently seeking a hardworking, motivated Intermediate/Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Edmonton-based team. If you have an Electrical Engineering degree, a Professional Engineer designation recognized by APEGA, and a minimum of ten years of relevant experience, we want to hear from you!


Capital Engineering offers both a standard 5-day work week and a condensed 4-day work week. However, all successful candidates must be willing to work in the office; remote work is not available for this position.


We're looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Electrical Engineer to step into a key leadership role as the Second-in-Command (2IC) for our Fire Alarm Systems, Life Safety Systems, and Asset Protection Systems group. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about design, thrives on field execution, and enjoys mentoring and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team.


What You'll Do:

  • Act as the 2IC, supporting the group lead in technical direction, coordination, and execution of Fire Alarm, Life Safety, and Asset Protection Systems projects.
  • Lead design development and oversee implementation through field verification and close collaboration with trades.
  • Develop comprehensive work packages, respond to RFIs, and resolve technical deviations during construction.
  • Prepare material requisitions, review vendor drawings, and perform technical bid evaluations.
  • Support field teams during installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities, ensuring compliance with all safety and code requirements.


Your Background:

  • Proven experience with medium and low voltage electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, MCCs, VFDs, and motors.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and international electrical standards (NFPA, API, CSA, IEEE).
  • Design and field experience in Fire Alarm and Life Safety Systems is essential.
  • Experience with power system analysis (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, etc.) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and organize technical efforts with a high attention to detail.
  • Comfortable interfacing with field crews, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring safe execution of work.
  • Someone who not only designs but takes pride in seeing those designs installed, tested, and turned over in the field.

  • Experience in oil and gas, mining, or utility facilities projects.
  • Ability to conduct field visits at client facilities.
