Job description

We are seeking a part-time Mechanical Engineer with hands-on experience in designing enclosures and producing functional prototypes using FDM and SLA 3D printing. This role requires a strong understanding of materials, environmental sealing, and preparing designs for injection moulding and certification processes. Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Design and iterate 3D CAD models of sensor enclosures with emphasis on IP-rated waterproofing, UV resistance, and mechanical durability.
  • Select suitable materials and apply principles of material science for outdoor applications.
  • Prepare prototypes using FDM and SLA 3D printing; optimize designs for each process.
  • Development of manufacturing processes, including injection molding and final assembly.
  • Plan and conduct environmental and strength testing for validation and certification.
  • Coordinate with testing labs to achieve relevant product and material certifications
  • Hardware mechanical design and assembly using 3D CAD models and 2D drafts.
  • Standardizing CAD drawings and processes.
  • Support final assembly, quality assurance, and design refinements based on testing feedback

Knowledge and skills:

  • Proven experience in enclosure design for electronic products, especially for outdoor use
  • Proficient in Fusion 360 or equivalent 3D CAD software
  • Hands-on experience with FDM and SLA 3D printing, including print setup, troubleshooting, and material selection
  • Familiarity with DFM for injection moulding, including draft angles, parting lines, and tolerance considerations
  • Knowledge of environmental durability and material certification standards (e.g., IP ratings, ASTM, ISO)

Academic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or related field.
  • We believe that diversity, equity and inclusion is the foundation for innovation and is an integral part of our business. We believe that success happens where new ideas can flourish - in an inclusive environment that is rich in diversity and a place where people from various backgrounds can work together.
