Our client, a design practice comprising architects, urban planners, interior designers, engineers and landscape architects, is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer out of their Toronto office. This is a permanent, full-time, hybrid position, paying between 90-115k per annum, in addition to RRSP matching, parental leave top-up, competitive health and dental benefits, reimbursement of professional dues and generous vacation allowance.
How you'll make a difference:
- Manage, coordinate and prepare documentation from schematic design to construction documents
- Design HVAC, plumbing, fire protection systems, heating and cooling systems across various sectors, including commercial, institutional, healthcare, sports & recreation buildings
- Work with architects, interior designers, structural engineers and electrical engineers to create truly integrated and innovative design solutions
- Manage high quality contract documents for HVAC, plumbing and drainage, fire protection, and controls systems
- Synthesize energy modelling, building information modelling, value engineering and life cycle costing to determine the optimum mechanical system solutions
- Perform engineering studies which may include analysis, condition assessments, and renewal planning. Formulate studies into written technical reports and presentations
- Carry out day to day project management
- Maintain and lead internal design standards
- Deliver technically sound and thorough mechanical solutions in an integrated environment
- Develop innovative mechanical systems that drive sustainability, decarbonization, resilience, and wellbeing
- Help lead junior staff by delegating tasks and providing technical guidance and support
Who you are:
- A Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology is required
- Registered professional with building code stamping authority is preferred
- 4+ years of experience with HVAC, plumbing and drainage, fire protection systems, heating and cooling systems for commercial and institutional buildings
- LEED accreditation is considered an asset
- Experience with BIM software (REVIT) is preferred
- Demonstrated experience in sustainable design practices
- Strong understanding and experience with schematic design, design development, contract documents, and contract administration
- Experience with performing load calculations, detailed design calculations, psychrometrics, and equipment selections
- Experience with engineering studies and condition assessments.
- Experience in specification writing
- Strong verbal and written communication skills

- Collaborative, team oriented, and enjoys sharing knowledge.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects and various deadlines
