The Mechanical Discipline Leader is a technical expert capable of providing technical leadership for the team in the following areas:
- HVAC
- Plumbing and Drainage
- Hot Water Systems
- Chilled Water Systems
- Chilled Glycol Systems
- Hot Oil Systems
- Tempered Oil Systems
- Jacketed Piping
- Heat Traced Piping (Electrical, Hot Water, Hot Oil)
The duties of the successful candidate will consist of a combination of the following tasks:
- Strategic development of the mechanical discipline
- Management of assigned team members as the team grows
- Coordination with international design offices on project work
- Technical leadership on assigned projects
- Peer review of engineering work
- Preparation of engineering calculations
- Development of engineering drawings (P&ID, layouts, 3D modeling)
- Preparation of construction specifications, user requirements, functional specifications, and scope documentation
- Cost estimating
- Development of templates and tools for discipline area
- Development of training materials
- Maintenance of industry knowledge for discipline area
- Delivery of training in technical lectures to junior staff
- Training and mentorship of junior staff
- Attendance of factory acceptance testing and on-site coordination and execution of commissioning and validation activities
- Travel to client sites for site review and troubleshooting
Minimum Required Education:
- Bachelor of Applied Science degree in engineering from a recognized Canadian university
Professional Requirements:
- Current registration with the Professional Engineer's of Ontario as a licensed Professional Engineer.
Core Competencies:
- Mechanical engineering skills with at least 7-10 years of current work experience, AND
- Management of projects, systems, staff, clients, budgets, schedules, and business relationships.
- Supervision of team members
- Training and development of junior staff
- Proficiency in written and spoken English with the ability to communicate clearly with clients.
- Adept at dealing with client's and other people professionally and courteously.
- Knowledge of common business practices and techniques such as quoting, preparation of requirements, marketing and sales.
- Valid driver's license, and owner of a car.
