Job Summary:
A leading engineering firm is seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join its team in New York City. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, coordination, and oversight of electrical systems for a variety of building and infrastructure projects. This position involves managing project deliverables, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, emergency power, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
- Manage multiple projects through all phases, from schematic design through construction administration.
- Prepare and review technical documentation such as specifications, load calculations, and equipment layouts.
- Coordinate with internal disciplines (mechanical, plumbing, structural) and external stakeholders (architects, contractors, clients).
- Ensure all designs comply with NEC, NFPA, NYC Building Code, and relevant energy codes.
- Attend project and client meetings, providing technical leadership and guidance.
- Perform site visits and field surveys as needed to verify installation and troubleshoot issues.
- Oversee and mentor junior engineers and designers to ensure consistent quality and growth within the team.
- Assist with budgeting, scheduling, and staffing for electrical scope across projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's degree is a plus).
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), preferably in New York, or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical design for building systems.
- Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, and electrical calculation tools such as SKM Power Tools or ETAP.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical and energy codes applicable to NYC projects.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working on complex, large-scale projects (e.g., healthcare, commercial high-rise, institutional) is highly desirable.
