Sr. Power Electronics Engineer

Company Overview

My cutting-edge NewSpace client is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to lead the design, development, and testing of advanced power systems for mission-critical applications. This is a hands-on role with system-level ownership in a fast-paced, technical environment.


Responsibilities

  • Power Electronics: Own end-to-end design from architecture to validation (1-1000W systems, MPPT).
  • Circuit Design: Lead schematic capture, PCB layout, and bring-up of custom hardware.
  • Power Distribution: Architect and implement system-level power routing and regulation.
  • Thermal Design: Apply best practices for heat management in dense environments.
  • Hardware Validation: Perform bench testing, debug, and performance verification.
  • Energy Systems: Support integration of solar, battery, and other energy sources.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical, software, and systems teams.


Required Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar.
  • Experience: 5+ years designing and testing power electronics ( 1-1000W), including MPPT.
  • Power Conversion: Experience designing low-voltage DC-DC converters, voltage regulators, or related power supply systems.
  • Circuit Design: Experience with schematic capture and board-level circuit design for power systems.
  • Power Distribution: Experience architecting full system-level power distribution across avionics and subsystems.
  • Hands-On Test: Experience with hands-on integration, hardware bring-up, and bench-level validation.
  • Startup Experience: Built hardware from scratch in early-stage, fast-paced startups.
  • Industry: Background in aerospace, automotive, eVTOL, EV, or other high-reliability hardware environments.
  • Tools: ECAD (e.g., Altium), SPICE simulation.
  • Lab Skills: Skilled with oscilloscopes, power supplies, DAQs, multimeters, etc.
  • Thermal Awareness: Understanding of thermal constraints in power system design.
  • Regulatory: ITAR clause below


Preferred Experience

  • Battery & BMS: Experience with batteries or battery management systems.
  • Reliability: Fault-tolerant design, FMEA, ruggedized systems.
  • Flight Hardware: Familiarity with space-qualified or flight-rated electronics.
