Senior Mechanical Engineer - HVAC Design - 635092
Location: Charlotte, NC (on-site)
A well-established design team is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead and support the planning and design of HVAC systems for various construction projects. This role involves overseeing design processes, supervising staff, and contributing to strategic growth and client development efforts. The ideal candidate will have significant experience with HVAC systems, team leadership, and client engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering:
- Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures on moderately complex projects.
- Prepare or review plans, technical specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates.
- Conduct design reviews, field investigations, and inspections; resolve design problems and check calculations by others.
- Make recommendations and design modifications based on actual site conditions.
Project Management & Coordination:
- Draft construction cost estimates and reports, including documentation necessary for material approvals and final payments.
- Act as a technical resource for requests involving the design and integration of low-voltage systems infrastructure.
- Coordinate utility requirements and service provider specifications into low-voltage design efforts.
- Plan and design low-voltage system layouts, wiring diagrams, equipment selections, and cabling transitions.
Client Relations & Business Development:
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring high satisfaction and communication.
- Participate in strategic planning, marketing initiatives, and business development for team growth and market expansion.
- Assist with the development of technical content to support marketing efforts.
Leadership & Team Support:
- Supervise, mentor, and support junior staff on production efforts and workload management.
- Lead quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reviews within the department.
- Contribute to the development of department design templates, standards, and internal guidelines.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 10+ years of relevant mechanical/HVAC design experience.
- Project experience with Direct Expansion (DX) and chilled water systems.
- Experience in plumbing and fire protection systems is a plus.
Technical Skills:
- Strong proficiency with AutoCAD (required).
- Proficiency with Revit (desirable).
- Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Skilled in HVAC load calculations, ductwork and piping design, and equipment selection (AHUs, VAVs, chillers, fans, pumps, etc.).
- Familiarity with applicable HVAC codes, standards, and best industry practices.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Proven ability to lead and mentor staff, resolve complex design issues, and manage project priorities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a team-oriented approach.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive client documentation.
- Organized and self-directed with the ability to meet critical deadlines with minimal supervision.
Licensure & Additional Requirements
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is required, with the ability to obtain Florida licensure within six (6) months.
- Multi-state licensure is preferred.
- Occasional nights and weekends may be required with little notice.
