Job Description:

Peak Systems Engineering is an MEP firm with offices in Cary and Charlotte NC. We are part of an employee-owned company and a place where every member of the team plays a direct role in the growth and success of the firm.


We are seeking a talented, friendly, and determined Licensed Mechanical Engineer for our Charlotte, North Carolina office. This exciting opportunity will allow you to work on both local and national projects and interact closely with all project team members in multiple design and construction disciplines to produce construction documents, develop project specifications, as well as support the construction administration process.


Responsibilities:

  • Supports production of mechanical and plumbing design documents under an Associate Principal
  • Survey existing building conditions and prepare technical reports of findings and/or review those prepared by staff
  • Collect data and other information for construction documents and/or review data and documents gathered by staff
  • Development design documents, including but not limited to mechanical and plumbing plans, equipment schematic design diagrams, equipment block diagrams and selection, and related calculations
  • Perform computations and analysis for mechanical and plumbing systems and/or review those prepared by staff
  • Utilize Revit software to prepare project design, construction documents, drawings and visual aids
  • Review and write project specifications
  • Collect data and other information for construction documents
  • Interacts directly with client
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and review/respond to RFI's
  • Review and complete punch lists and project close out documents
  • Prepare project progress (and related) reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Update and maintain shop drawing and RFI log
  • Manage personal hours and data reporting as required using company tools
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Education, Experience, Skill Sets:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Technology from an ABET accredited institution
  • Professional Engineer License in North Carolina Required or ability to obtain in 60 days
  • 5+ years of experience required in field related to the above job description
  • Thorough understanding of Uniform Construction Code, International Building Code, International Mechanical Code, and other applicable codes/standards.
  • Advanced knowledge of selecting and designing mechanical systems including water-based HVAC systems utilizing boilers, chillers, pumps, coils and piping distribution systems; air-based HVAC systems utilizing packaged equipment, furnaces, fans and ductwork systems
  • Experienced in the gathering and analysis of data required to compile accurate construction cost estimates at typical phases of a project
  • Ability to identify and select mechanical equipment types and systems suitable for project needs.
  • Experience in sustainable design practices
  • Skilled in performing and analyzing load calculations
  • Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
  • Ability to analyze information/data and prepare documents, reports and correspondence, and complete assignments accurately and timely
  • Ability to use MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to use Revit
  • Ability to work independently, and as a member of a team, with limited to moderate supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively, oral and presentation format, technical and non-technical information
  • Ability to be organized, manage multiple assignments/tasks, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Possess a positive, can-do disposition and delivers superior client service and support
  • Ability to mentor others
  • Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills
  • Permanent right to work in the United States
